We often don’t realize how important our thoughts are. Worse, we often think thoughts just happen - we can’t control them. That mentality makes us a victim of our thoughts - at the whim of fate and our environment. Things seem to happen to us instead of us having some say in creating what happens to us.

Thoughts are the result of our attitude, mindset, beliefs, and our choices.  Beliefs determine how we interpret events. Interpretation happens as thought. 

You can work to change beliefs that do not support you. You can become aware of your beliefs so they do not control you. You can become aware of your interpretations so you can mold them as you choose.

You can choose thoughts that are conducive to happiness, well-being, and success.

 Negative thoughts can be detrimental, lead to patterns of negative thinking, anxiety, and fear. These thoughts are limiting. They pull you down.

Positive thinking can open the mind to new possibilities, increase creativity and enhance problem-solving. By feeling safe and open to new information and different points of view, the brain can generate new ideas. 

You can choose to create positive thoughts the hard way - by will power (it’s still better than not doing it).

It can also help you detach from what may be distracting you and get you back on track - purposeful and productive.

Just focus on the outcome you want and your subconscious will set itself to problem-solving, finding opportunities in challenges, creating work-arounds to obstacles, and motivating you.

By visualizing positive outcomes you set positive expectations in mind. Have you ever heard the saying, “They who expect nothing shall not be disappointed.”

True enough - and they also shall not be victorious in achieving their desires.

It is necessary to hold onto positive expectations. You can be realistic and positive in expectation at the same time. You know that the desired outcome is possible. If you really don’t believe it is possible, then you have set yourself up for failure with an unrealistic expectation. Set your goals high, but realistically so. 

When you know something is possible and others have done it, there is no reason you can’t do it too. There is a way. You will find it. You will do it. That is positive expectation.

Example: If you run a mile in 16 minutes, don;t shoot for 10 minutes your next time out. That would be an unrealistic goal. Shoot for 15 on your next time out, then 14 and so on. Don’t try to go from 16 minutes to 10 minutes all at once. There is always a journey. 

10 minutes may or may not be a realistic goal (It’s world class time) for you considering personal attributes and fitness. Choose a realistic goal. Then choose intermediate goals and go after one at a time. Expect to achieve each goal. 

If the goal is realistic, people only fail if they give up, don’t try, aren’t consistent, and don’t commit to it.

Be Purposeful And Thoughtful In Everything You Do

Being purposeful in everything thing you do contributes to positive self-esteem and confidence. It is motivating. Also, by focusing on what you are doing with the overall purpose in mind you engage your mindfulness.
